Emancipation Proclamation
By Samantha Arends
Lincoln did not have the rights to end slavery, but he could take away property away during wartime. After the north won in Antietam Lincoln said that he made the Emancipation Proclamation saying that enslaved people can be freed on January 1, 1863. When the Proclamation was issued it made the government realized that that slavery is wrong. If the Union slavery would be banned forever and the Confederacy would have to rejoin the nation. If the Confederacy wins the war then they get to keep their slaves and do not have to rejoin the nation. The Emancipation Proclamation did not free any slaves because the constitution would only let president Lincoln free the slaves from the North which had no slaves. Now we are fighting the war to regain the Confederacy to the Union and to free the slaved people. Which made some citizens mad because the went to fight to rejoin the nation not to free slaved people.
