Union Strategies:

The North had a strong leader in General Winfield Scott, who has seen war before. To win this Civil War, he had three plans. The first plan was to come from sea and blockade the South from getting supplies from other countries. It also stopped the South from exporting their cotton to other countries. In order to do this, the Union had to make strong, metal ships to hold the damage.
The second plan was to take over the Mississippi River, which would split the Confederacy in half. This would also affect communication within the South and, it wouldn't allow supplies to get to either side. This was known as the Anaconda Plan, named by Scott because the snake squeezes it's prey to death.
The third plan was to take over or capture Richmond, Virginia, which is the Confederate capital. If that happened, it would be game over.
Everyone should know who won the Civil War. It is the UNITED States of America! General Winfield Scott's plan worked out perfectly. It was 1864, and the South had lost all of its weapons, food, and other supplies needed to survive during the war. That happened because the Union blocked the Confederate coastline and seas. Nothing could get in and nothing could go out. Also splitting the Confederacy in half, the Mississippi River worked like a charm because they were too useless to do anything about it. Lastly, the North surrounded the capital of Richmond with Jefferson Davis. From this point on, the Union was in charge of the country. The point of the war wasn't to ban anything, or hold something off or to even end slavery; It was to reunite our country as one nation and become the United States of America once again.
