On November 19th 1863 the soldiers National Cemetery was dedicated at Gettysburg. At the ceremony, past governor of Massachusetts Edward Everett said a speech that was two hours long after him President Abraham Lincoln said 272 words for two minutes. Lincoln was able to honor the soldiers and the cause for which they had fought and died in. Reaction to Lincolns Gettysburg Address in the press were mixed. Edward Everett along with the New York Times Chicago Tribune, and Springfield thought the speech was a very good success.
